Archives for January 2011

If the predicted Midwestern Snowmageddon…

January 31, 2011 by Kathleen Rooney

…doesn’t dash all my travel hopes and dreams–and yours–this Wednesday, then I hope  to see you at the AWP Conference in Washington, DC, especially at the following locations and events:

The Rose Metal Press Table at slot A4 of the Book Fair, particularly on Friday, February 4 at 10:30 am when Adam Golaski will be signing copies of Color Plates; Friday, February 4 at 2:00 pm when Mary Hamilton will be signing copies of We Know What We Are; and Friday, February 4 at 3:00 pm when Carol Guess will be signing copies of Tinderbox Lawn.

The panel To Wave or Not to Wave: Writing the Female Body Across Generations. (Kathleen Rooney, Janice Eidus, Patricia Foster, Karen Salyer McElmurray, Kate Zambreno) First, second, or thirdwave? Post or no wave? The six feminist writers in this roundtable don’t get hung up on labels, but they do suggest there’s insight to be gained by looking at how the work of women writing about sex and the body has evolved over the past 40 years. Join them for a multi-genre, multi-generational conversation on how feminism has influenced literary explorations of gender, useful for anyone interested in how writing the body can situate individuals of any age in the world.

This will take place on Thursday, February 3rd from 12:00 to 1:15 in the Thurgood Marshall West Room of the Marriott Wardman Park, Mezzanine level, and will feature the illustrious Elisa Gabbert as a last minute replacement for Patricia Foster, who unfortunately can’t make it.

The Poetry Brothel off-site reading, also on Thursday, February 3rd at 8:00 pm at The Gibson, 2009 14th St NW, featuring: Ariana Reines as herself, Kathleen Rooney as Vivian Nightwood, Matthew Yeager as The Butler, B.C. Edwards as Oliver Durant, Lauren Hunter as Harriett Van Os, Lisa Marie Basile as Luna Liprari, Rachel Herman-Gross as Simone, Meghann Plunkett as Echo Rose, Adrian Wyatt as Calico Cowl, Alyssa Goldstein as Rusalka, and David Winter as Sebastien. Costumes and/or black tie attire is encouraged but not required.

The Switchback Books Table at slot D4 of the Book Fair. I’ll be signing copies of Oneiromance (an epithalamion) there from 10:00-11:00 am on Saturday, February 5.
