Excellent question, Jeremy. Steve, our knowledgeable tour guide at the Hemingway Home, is the one who told us to be sure to treat the chickens with respect. He also told us how Hemingway’s wife Pauline tore out all the ceiling fans in their house and replaced them with chandeliers. One got the impression that the HH staff harbors a fair amount of resentment for this action on her part.

I’m glad you took that picture of me before I broke my hand on Hemingway’s jaw.

Truman spent 175 days of his presidency in Key West, which seems like a lot, and maybe IS a lot. His quarters there were evidently known as the “little White House,” and are now a museum. By handy comparison, during his presidency George W. Bush evidently spent 487 days at Camp David, and 490 days at his ranch near Crawford, TX. (Bush served as president longer than Truman did, but only by 82 days.)
