Colleen Mondor is seriously grossed out…

…by For You, For You I Am Trilling These Songs. She likes Ray Bradbury a lot, but she does not like personal essays about Brazilian waxes, poets, or cousins who join convents. “Ew. Just…EW,” she writes.

Check out the whole ick-fest here. Thanks for taking the time to read the book and write about it, Colleen!

You are ‘big’ to thank her and a crotch is usually a funny topic, not a gross one, in my book. Wax away, bp

I am glad she reviewed the book, but she seemed to be confused about what she wants to read. Freaking out for several paragraphs because of a Brazilian Wax? Really? Why are some subjects categorically off-limits to her in terms of their worthiness for being written about? Then she is upset because Kathy draws larger conclusions about the drunks at a bar, pointing out that they aren’t just drunks and fit into a larger picture about manners and the way in which some men think women are to be treated? Then later on she say “You can write about interesting people and places and big ideas”–it seems like she just described a bigger idea and condemned it. Then the reviewer comes back to the wax! Something obviously compelled her to finish the book, provoked her enough to write an insulting and not insightful review, make fun of the you (Kathy), your husband and your writing without really talking about the writing itself. Many high school girls will grow up to get Brazilian waxes, and many of them will have to contend with chauvinistic behavior from men–sparing them that or saying such things just should not be written about seems shortsighted.
